Bus Safety Assembly

KS3 and KS4 assembly plan about Bus Safety. Did you know that one third of child pedestrian casualties aged 12 -15 occur on a journey to or from school? This assembly fits nicely with the personal safety aspects of PSHE and Every Child Matters. The assembly includes two video clips with real life road safety messages and highlights practical things that young people can do to keep safe on their journey to and from school. The PowerPoint is adaptable so you can include your own school bus safety policy if required.

Bus Safety Assembly

This assembly resource on bus safety is to inform students about just how important staying safe on public transport is. It will tell them how independently using public transport is part of growing up, but highlight important points that are musts when using buses and trains.

The assembly plan and accompanying PowerPoint make use of videos and pictures to engage the students throughout. The PowerPoint makes use of facts that the pupils can read for themselves, reinforcing the whole idea of bus safety. The videos that are available use the example of two teenagers who were killed when they stepped off a bus in 2008, which will really catch the attention of the pupils. The assembly idea then goes on to include the students by asking them for suggestions of what will constitute to poor bus safety, before concluding with the key points students should consider.

Bus safety maybe something that students take for granted, but hopefully they will see more sense after this assembly is delivered. This assembly on public transport relates to the PSHE programme of study, and the ‘Stay Safe’ aspect of Every Child Matters.
