Changes in the World of Work Lesson Plan 5 - Making Changes
Using a realistic business scenario, students role play and make commercial decisions in response to change.
Connect the Learning
Recap on the previous lesson which looked at how students could react positively to change.
The Big Picture
This lesson looks at why changes sometimes have to be made and how to decide what to do.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, students know how to decide whether a series of changes is valid and identify the type of judgements that have to be made.
Introduction
Businesses have to change in order to survive. In this lesson the students will be looking at a case study of a business which is stuck in a rut and losing money. They are the troubleshooters who are in charge of putting it back into profit.
Starter Activity
Show the students the PowerPoint presentation Making Changes. Discuss with them how difficult changes have to sometimes be made for business survival. Get students to think about the consequences of changes made. How would a sacked Royal Mail employee feel for instance? Or a customer who now receives their post late?
