Connect the Learning

Pupils should be encouraged to widen their careers research as much as possible. Looking at related occupations, jobs linked to individual GCSE subjects, occupational areas and jobs linked to college courses gives pupils a fuller picture of what is available, and links to a pupils’ individual careers research from previous lessons.

The Big Picture

In this lesson pupils are encouraged to widen the net in their search and research of a future career. This is important because overaspiring pupils should not be put off a job that is beyond these capabilities but merely diverted towards related occupations. This lesson also allows all pupils to look at potential careers from a different perspective.

Learning Outcomes

Pupils will learn how to generate additional options in their careers research.

Introduction

Teacher leads discussion on details found by pupils during their careers research in previous lessons.

Emphasise the need for pupils to do a compatibility check with the academic requirements of the job and their own potential at GCSE. Explain that today’s lesson is designed to help pupils overcome a variety of problems that individuals may encounter in their careers research.
