Connect the Learning

This is an optional lesson in the Careers action planning module. It may be used to follow on from discussions about routes of entry to further and higher education.

The Big Picture

This is lesson 1 of 4 and can be used in careers and pastoral lessons or by the pupils as and when required in the library or learning resource centre. It focuses on the pupils need to assess and appraise potential future careers against his or her own abilities, skills and academic prowess.

NB: You will need to print off sufficient numbers of the Careers Research Sheet on 3 differently coloured sheets of paper. This is to help identify those students who will need to follow either an academic route of entry, a vocational route, or a work-based route to their goal.

Learning Outcomes

Completion of the job analysis pro-forma will give the pupil a clear and detailed appraisal of a potential career.

Introduction

Teacher leads discussion where pupils are asked why thorough research of a potential career is important.

For example - what do you do if the GCSE’s required for a particular job are much higher than those you are currently likely to attain?
