Break down the phrase “local labour market” into its three component parts. Ask the class in turn to define what we mean by “local”, “labour” and “market”. Summarise outcome of discussion. One important thing that needs to come out of this discussion is that a “labour market” means that there are some people looking for work, and some people looking for people to work for them. There is an element of supply and demand.
