Applying for Jobs - Interview Techniques Lesson

This lesson looks at the purpose of interviews, when people have to take them, what employers look for and how to prepare for them. Doing voluntary work or being involved in a community or sport activity can also help with job interviews as you will have more experiences to draw from.

This lesson also includes a useful interview checklist that students can refer back to when they have real interviews for work experience or jobs.

The Learning Outcomes

Students will understand how to prepare for an interview for a job.

They will be clear about what employers are looking for in an interview.

Introduction

Introduce the idea that all employers will give you an interview before you start a job.

- Ask if anyone has previously had an interview?
- What was it like?
- What was the purpose of the interview?
