About the Binge Drinking Lesson Plan

This lesson plan specifically looks at how binge drinking affects society. This is done by using a number of exercises that get the students brainstorming and working through different scenarios on the topic. This not only encourages the students to think about the topic but to discuss their ideas with fellow students to broaden their knowledge. The lesson gives students all the knowledge on how binge drinking not only affects them but other people – giving them all the facts and information to make informed decisions on the topic.

Aims

The aim of the Binge Drinking lesson is to provide students with a clearer understanding of binge drinking and specifically on the social costs that drinking can have an impact on. The lesson provides the opportunity for questions and answers to be discussed to ensure that all key areas are highlighted and covered. Through the teaching of this lesson students will start to gain an understanding of the social costs that binge drinking impacts such as the effects on crime levels, the justice system and the health service. It also looks at how alcohol affects companies through loss of motivation and productivity in its staff.

Learning Outcomes

The main learning outcomes from this lesson plan include a student’s ability to: • Understand the topic of binge drinking • Have knowledge of the social costs associated to alcohol abuse By using the Binge Drinking lesson plan it is hoped that students gain an appreciation of the consequences of binge drinking both to them and on society as a whole.
