About the Alcohol and Mental Health Lesson Plan

This lesson starts by looking at the facts related to alcohol and mental health that are often overlooked or misinterpreted. It also gives students an understanding of how the Government respond to the issue and what their stance on the topic is. The lesson then goes on to cover sensitive areas such as alcohol abuse and alcoholism – and shows students how alcohol has an effect on citizenship. The lesson comprises a series of activities which includes a question and answer forum on the subject. There is also a detailed case study for teachers to use to gain appropriate feedback to ensure that students have fully comprehended the topic.

Aims

The lesson aims to teach students about mental health in relation to alcohol and covers areas such as schizophrenia, depression and psychosis. The objective of the lesson is to ensure that students understand about alcohol abuse and alcoholism and how it can manifest into these mental health conditions. The lesson wants to teach students about how this is an issue which effects all of society and to highlight what they can do to ensure it doesn’t happen to them, as well as letting them know what they can do to help people in such situations.

Learning Outcomes
