About the Exam Techniques Lesson Plan

This lesson plan looks at the actual exam and how it is the perfect time for students to demonstrate their knowledge. It is also the time for students to prove to themselves that their revision strategy that was developed throughout these lessons has worked. The lesson contains paired as well as individual and group activity. The activities aim to promote reflection on past experience and how these experiences can be turned into positive learning actions. The lesson is also the ideal time for schools to reiterate any exam processes and protocols that need to be followed by students along with additional guidance regarding results day.

Aims

The Exam Techniques lesson plan has two aims. Firstly, this lesson plan focuses on taking the actual exam and the preparation that is required for this. The lesson aims to motivate students to view exams as a way to demonstrate their learning and knowledge. Secondly, the lesson gives students the ability to reflect on past exam experiences and to discuss successes and mistakes – looking at what can be learnt from these experiences moving forward. It also provides the ideal opportunity to review the key strategies for doing well in exams.
