Recap on the previous lesson which explored influences on the world of work.

The Big Picture

This lesson introduces the next topic of change.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session students will be able to identify those personal skills and attributes which help people cope with change.

Introduction

Whole class activity - Show the slide from the accompanying PowerPoint. Discuss the different types of skills with a focus on those that are needed in an uncertain situation. Display the skills under each section only after the students have come up with their own ideas.

Activity

Individual work

Introduce the activity for the rest of the session. Students will be looking at their own skills first and then identifying the skills of a partner to see whether their appraisal of their own skills matches that of their partner.

Provide students with either electronic access to, or hard copies of the ‘Personal skills’ and the ‘Response’ sheets. Students read the list of skills under both personal skills and transferable skills and identify:

- 15 personal skills
- 10 transferable skills that they think they have. They list them on the ‘Response’ worksheet.
