Connect the Learning

Recap on the previous lesson which looked at different levels of risk.

The Big Picture

This lesson explores how many risks people would take to get a reward.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, students will appreciate the need to review risks as they do not stay at the same level over time.

Introduction

Whole class activity. Discuss the level of motivation to succeed of several famous people and whether money is always the most important reward.

Discuss what types of reward there are – examination success, acknowledgement of effort, celebration of performance, awards for creativity, congratulations for enthusiasm, and whether students think these are as important or more important than monetary return.

Activity

Split students into groups of four to carry out the roles as defined in the Case Study Personal Reward worksheet.

As the group discusses the scenario, they make a chart to document their responses to the situation and what they would be saying to each other. They display their response charts for others to see.
