Connect the Learning

This lesson introduces the many aspects of the media to students. It encourages them to become a little more media smart by acknowledging the impact the media has on all our lives and considering the positive aspects of this.

The Big Picture

Although all students will know many of the individual aspects of the media they may not have an understanding of how much of an impact the media has on our lives.

Learning Outcomes

Students understand that there are various forms of media. They gain an understanding that the term media covers all of these forms. They understand how powerful the media is.

Introduction

Start by showing students the PowerPoint without introducing the topic.
Suggest that they will quickly guess the topic. They need to list as many different types of media as possible.
Get them to list these ready for feedback.
Begin by sharing a definition of media / mass media. If you wish you can use the definition on slide 4.
Get feedback from students and list the various types of media today.
