Why Volunteer

Starting out with the preconceptions that students have regarding volunteers, these Citizenship lesson plans make use of videos and teacher-led activities to look at the reasons people volunteer. The teaching resources provide activities that students can do in groups and individually, and focuses in on key points of volunteering, such as the short and long term impacts. The many different people that benefit from volunteering are explored and considered, encouraging the students to broaden their thinking.

These teaching resources for volunteering include two videos, which provide visual material for students who learn better visually, helping them engage in the lesson. The videos themselves are great examples of what volunteering can mean to people, and gives an intimate view of how volunteering can work, in the forms of involvement in sport and learning about the environment. The teaching resources link to the wider topic of volunteering in the subject of Citizenship.
