Researching Careers Lesson Plan

This lesson plan is the first in a series of three that looks at Career Research, an important topic for pupils looking to the future and what possibilities are available to them. By outlining the main objectives and targets for the teacher, as well as giving step-by-step instructions for each activity, this teaching resource has everything you will need to deliver an engaging, informative lesson.

The lesson plan begins with the teacher outlining the career-related resources that are available to students from school, before the students are placed in groups of four to sample each of these resources. The main activity of the lesson then begins, during which students will complete a job analysis pro-forma, which is included within the teaching resources. The students will be asked to research a job of their choice and go through the form in terms of what qualifications and other specifications need to be met in order to do that job.

By making use of both individual and group work, this teaching resource will enable students to think about their future whilst gaining invaluable research skills in the process.
