The Big Picture

This lesson looks at the different risks associated with going on a gap year at different points in life.

Learning Outcomes

- Students will understand how to apply a risk analysis method to many real-life scenarios.
- Students will understand that being able to analyse risk is a skill needed for taking a year out and also for everyday life.

Introduction

Ask if students have ever faced making a difficult decision? Discuss what they did to make a choice. Was it the right choice? Remind students of the lifelong learning ladder concept and how they will have to make difficult decisions throughout life. Discuss the use of risk analysis tools. Ask if anyone knows what a SWOT is? Draw a SWOT and hand out the worksheets. Explain the acronym and how it can be applied to any situation such as applying for a job, go on a gap year etc
