Lesson 3 in the transition process. This lesson looks at the college prospectus. How do students use the prospectus to find out information to help them to apply for courses.

The Big Picture

No two college prospectuses are ever the same. For students it is often difficult to find out the information they need. This is a skills based lesson to help them to read the documents more successfully.

Learning Outcomes

Students to learn how to use college prospectuses to search for the relevant courses to meet the individual needs of the student.

Students to develop a Careers Action Plan with information recorded about which courses and where to study them.

Introduction

Show whole class a range of college prospectuses for your area. Distribute the range into each group of students. Ask for feedback on design, readability, access to information, ease of use. Oral feedback to class.
