Connect the Learning

This is an optional lesson using the same worksheets as Lesson 1 in this module, combined with a careers questionnaire. The desired outcome in this lesson is for the students to identify where they are in their career planning process and where they need to be.

The Big Picture

This lesson can be used in careers and pastoral lessons or by the pupil as and when required in the library or learning resource centre.

Using three different coloured sheets of paper allows careers staff to identify pupils who:

a) Are very poorly focused on ideas for post-16 progression

b) Have some ideas

c) Are very strongly focused.

This is useful because visitors from the Connexions service can easily identify the weakest persons in lessons and offer appropriate support.

Learning Outcomes

Completion of the job analysis pro-forma will give the pupil a clear and detailed appraisal of a potential career. The careers questionnaire allows students to assess their own progress in career planning.

Introduction

Task 1: Careers questionnaire

Pupils are asked to complete the careers questionnaire. Select a suitable scoring system (for example a=3, b=2, c=1).

Pupils are given a score from which the class can be divided into three groups – the lowest score being the most poorly focused pupils. Pupils complete an appropriately coloured individual research sheet based on their questionnaire score.
