Two careers activities designed to help students think about their career choices.
The first activity uses song lyrics, the second uses video clips to aid careers planning.
These activities are also ideal for diploma preparation.
Why do we dismiss some career opportunities? In these activities students analyse their career choices more closely.
Some students may dismiss a career path due to their own skills, qualifications or perceptions. In these activities, students think about their own choices and their reasons for these before considering why and how they may want to tackle these decisions .
As a class, the group analyse the lyrics to a song which highlights the topic. They must look at the reasons for the decisions being made and apply them to their own career choices.
Now working individually or in pairs, students research a number of opportunities in their chosen sector to present to the rest of the class.
These career opportunities lessons can be used to support learning outcomes for Preparation for Work Life - Employment Opportunities from AQA. These lessons are also suitable for use with Career Planning, Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) - Vocational and Diploma Preparation, Employability - Career Exploration, Exploring Job Opportunities from ASDAN; Preparing for Employment from City & Guilds; Employability Skills - Opportunities from OCR.
