Friendship Assembly Plan

Are all friends good? What happens when you make friends with people who do not have your best interests at heart? Students get involved in creating an assembly about friendship, and knowing the difference between good and bad friends. Includes suggested music and a fable from Aesop that illustrates how falling in with bad friends affects you as an individual.

Friendship Assembly

This assembly on friendships is to be used by teachers, and will explore the concept of friendships and encourage students to consider and reflect upon their own relationships. The friendship assembly plan links to some topics in the PSHE programme of study.

The assembly script looks at what good qualities of a friend are, as well as some negative aspects, leading to the question of whether all our friends are good for us. The ways in which our friends can help us and hinder us are explored, and a memory hook is provided to remember the positive qualities of friendship. The assembly resource even looks at different levels, or degrees, of friends, and what their qualities are and what the relationships with different people may be like. The presentation emphasises that a real friend will not have a negative impact on you or your lifestyle.

Concluding with a quote from George Washington and an appropriate song, the assembly introduces (or reinforces) the idea of good friends and bad friends, what kinds of relationships we have and the positive and negative impacts they have on us.
