More About the Positive Achievements Assembly

This assembly on Positive Achievements is a good way of students being encouraged to think positively using historic examples. The assembly has cross curricular links to History, PSHE and Citizenship programmes of study, and contains a script for teachers and an accompanying PowerPoint presentation.

The assembly starts by looking at the meaning of success and encourages the students to think about what achievements they have made during the year. It expresses the idea that success is battling against the odds to achieve a positive result, and using that idea to lead into a discussion on Winston Churchill. The students are informed that Churchill was not very successful at school, yet still went on to great things as Prime Minister of the country. The example of ‘Dunkirk Spirit’ is given as is an excerpt from a speech Churchill gave to students in 1941, emphasising the importance of never giving up.

The assembly resource finalises on the successes of the year group and individuals, and the PowerPoint is adaptable so that the teacher can add whatever success stories they have to the presentation.
