Drugs Assembly Plan

Using the “health triangle” this assembly explores the social, physical and psychological consequences of illegal drug misuse This assembly can be used as a starter for a PSHE awareness week or enrichment day on the topic of illegal drugs. Drugs Assembly

This assembly plan is to be used by teachers to raise awareness of drugs and reinforce anti-drug messages that the students will have received elsewhere in their school curriculum. It can link to PSHE and some topics in that programme of study, and contains a teacher script for the assembly and a PowerPoint presentation.

The assembly makes use of different media to get messages across to the students, such as pictures and a song from a well known band. The lyrics of the song are shown in the PowerPoint presentation and engage the students to think about drugs and their effects. Key facts and the physical and mental impact of drugs are all covered, and the assembly script encourages students to read parts of the presentation out loud in order to ensure they take in the information. The social effects are also considered before help and support is offered in the assembly.

The drugs assembly forms part of a government scheme to inform young people about the dangers of drugs, and to steer them away from them. The resource also makes sure that students are fully aware of the adverse effects that drugs have on the individual and wider society.
