Economic Well-Being Assembly

Black-Eyed Peas Fergie may seem an unlikely starting point for an assembly about economic wellbeing, but it all makes sense! In this assembly students are asked to imagine what they might do if they won the lottery when they are adults. A celebrity lifestyle of a plush apartment, sports car and designer clothes wouldn’t leave you with much change! This light hearted look at economic wellbeing makes a good general introduction to the topic.

Economic Well-being Assembly

This assembly for economic wellbeing is for teachers looking to teach students about personal finance and can link it to the PSHE programme of study. The assembly plan includes a teacher script and an accompanying PowerPoint presentation to emphasise key points.

The assembly starts out using a well-known popstar’s song to engage the pupils. By then talking about the lyrics of the song the assembly leads into the topic of money and how everyday people don’t get the chance to live however they want, like popstars do. Different subjects such as careers and work-related learning are touched upon, and what the term personal finance covers. The idea of winning the lottery is put across to the students, and it is explained that even then money can easily slip through their fingers.

The assembly also makes use of facts and figures to inform the students about personal debt and how difficult life can be for people constantly in debt. The dangers of credit cards and personal loans are highlighted for the pupils, and the assembly finishes with a thought of the day to reinforce the idea of economic wellbeing. This assembly resource clarifies the importance of personal finance for the students and relates to them in order to get them engaged and involved.
