St Patrick's Day Assembly Plan

St Patrick’s Day is a worldwide celebration in today’s society, with the USA, Australia, South Africa and more, all with Irish ancestry in their countries.

The assembly goes back to the roots of St Patrick, and what he actually did in his life to end up as the world-renown patron saint of Ireland as he is today. The assembly resource documents the life of St Patrick and what he actually achieved, as well as some of the myths and tales that are attributed to him, such as him banishing snakes from Ireland forever. The PowerPoint that accompanies the St Patrick’s Day assembly uses images and bullet points to emphasise key points and engage the students.

From the historic life of St Patrick, the assembly script then goes through the celebrations that take place today, as well as the reasons for people emigrating away from Ireland throughout history. This helps the students understand why St Patrick’s Day has gone global and why, when March 17th rolls around, the mysterious life of a historic figure brings families from a whole host of continents together as one.

The assembly resource can link to some topics in RE that look at the patron saints and different cultures around the world.
