School Uniform Assembly Plan

Having problems with school uniform? Remind students why they should be bothered with this assembly. Everyone knows why school uniform is used by most UK secondary schools, its just that sometimes we may need a little reminder. This assembly goes through the main reasons for school uniform and makes the point that education is a privilege which is not shared by many children in the world, and shouldn’t be taken for granted.

School Uniform Assembly

This assembly resource looks at the importance of school uniform. In many schools students may complain about having to wear one and not having their own choice or ‘identity,’ and this assembly plan also looks at the cons as well as the pros of employing a school uniform.

The teaching resource draws comparisons between school uniform and other uniforms in various places of work, and the identities and reasons for wearing similar clothes. For example, an officer in the army will be recognised by his camouflaged attire and protective gear, which is worn for a specific purpose. Other businesses, such as a retail store, use uniforms to distinguish staff from customers inside the store itself. There are other reasons also highlighted within the assembly plan.

The uniform assembly argues the case for wearing a uniform, such as not having to ruin expensive clothes by wearing them to school, but also agrees that some school uniforms can be expensive themselves and they don’t deter bullying. Cultural differences are also touched upon in the assembly script and presentation.

There are always issues regarding uniform, but the assembly goes on to encourage the students to consider how lucky they are just to be able to wear one. In concluding the teacher resource, a case study of a young girl in Africa is used to contextualise the issue and help students reflect on what they have.
