What’s the Point? Assembly

This assembly is a good resource for teachers looking to encourage and motivate students with their school work. The resources include an assembly script and an accompanying PowerPoint presentation, both of which are adaptable to suit the teacher’s needs.

The assembly plan begins by asking students why they go to school. This immediately gets the students involved and engaged with the assembly. The assembly works with a series of questions which follow on from each other, so from ‘Why are we in school?’ comes answers such as ‘to gain qualifications,’ in turn leading on to ‘how do we do this?’ This way, the students are always thinking and stimulated throughout the assembly. After the opening questions, a series of scenarios are then offered to the students, each with an example of a person never learning an important message or skill in school. The assembly relies on the PowerPoint presentation to get the message across to the pupils, using images and bullet points to put important points across to the students.

This assembly can relate to every subject that involves personal development in school, and the significance of what you learn in school is related to the students. Pupils should leave the assembly with a fresh outlook on school and more determination than ever to succeed and work hard.
