Laughter and Humour Assembly

Use at the beginning of year 10 as a positive, fun assembly. What is laughter? Why do we find some things funny? This assembly explains a little about laughter, and how it signifies being happy as part of a group and belonging. It also makes a point about the appropriate time for laughter and understanding the difference between laughing at someone, and laughing with someone.

Laughter and Humour Assembly

These assembly materials are for teachers looking to ensure a positive start to the new academic year. It links to the subject of Citizenship and certain points in the Every Child Matters scheme. Included are an assembly script and a PowerPoint presentation.

This laughter assembly not only looks at the social ideas about laughing and humour, but also the scientific study of laughter, and the findings that come from it. The students will be encouraged to consider what exactly happens when people laugh, and will learn of the positive physiological effects that laughing has on the human body, such as how it may help protect the heart. Different scenarios that could lead to laughter are given, such as relief, or a nervous reaction to passing danger.

This positive assembly looks at both social and scientific aspects of laughter, and the students will be made aware that laughing and smiling helps their body as well as their mind in making them feel better and healthier.
