Consideration for Others Assembly

This assembly on consideration for others uses religious morality stories to emphasise how important it is to be unselfish, and doing something good for other people. This assembly resource includes a teacher script and a PowerPoint to emphasise and visualise key points.

The assembly starts by using a relevant song to engage the pupils and incite responses about consideration for others. The main section of the presentation then looks at the parable of the Good Samaritan to convey the message of looking after one another as human beings, even if stereotypes and expectations say that we shouldn’t. This leads into a teacher-led discussion that considers how people react to emotions and talking about emotions, making use of the PowerPoint presentation to display facts about the youth of today in regards to emotions. The role of the charity Samaritans, who drew their name from the parable, is then explored and discussed in detail.

The students leaving the assembly will be fresh with the knowledge of the work that Samaritans do, as well as the root of where their name derives from. They should be more considerate due to the topics raised in this assembly plan, and also be aware of the links across the curriculum for subjects such as PSHE and RE.
